Supply Chain Europe has structured its portfolio of services into three Centres, designed to make it easier for clients to see the full range of services on offer. Each Centre focuses on a specific service area.

The Strategy Centre

The Strategy Centre consolidates the consultancy activities covering both the provision of specialist advice on supply chain strategy and its subsequent implementation. A key feature of the Centre's work involves alignment of supply chain strategies with client's marketing and commercial strategies including the implications of e-commerce.

Clients require consultancy services for a number of reasons. All organisations value truly independent and impartial advice. Their own management teams are usually fully occupied running the business and available resources are limited. Frequently specialist knowledge, skills or experience are required. In addition effective implementation requires correspondingly high levels of change management capability.

The Solutions Centre

The Solutions Centre provides specialist services including analysis and design for those clients wishing to undertake logistical improvements or supply chain network development in order to achieve long-term sustainable competitive advantage. Solutions can be used to underpin decision-making in wider business contexts such as corporate strategy, risk management and investment appraisal.

Techniques and applications employed include data analysis, use of geographical information systems (GIS), process mapping, computer modelling and simulation to provide an expert view of current and potential scenarios in terms of cost, service and environmental impact.

Available services include preparation of specifications for supply chain networks and their related functional areas including demand planning, procurement, production planning and control, inventory management, materials handling, warehousing, transportation, human resources, and logistical information systems.

Solutions are robust and take into account operational reality at local, national or international level as appropriate. Although individual client needs vary, a summary of design services is provided here.

The Knowledge and Research Centre

The Knowledge and Research Centre undertakes research projects to give clients critical insights into potential market opportunities, application of the latest supply chain thinking, and understanding of specific issues within their markets. Its outputs combine rigorous research with in-depth operational knowledge and understanding to provide clients with the essential information for effective decision-making.

Market sector research reports

Client-specific market sector research reports are designed to provide clients with a succinct report, usually presented at a senior management forum, which enables the client management team to reach commercial decisions on the basis of up-to-date knowledge and understanding.

A typical report has the following structure:

  • Introduction
  • Market sector description
  • Sector size
  • Sector trends - historic and forecast
  • Key players
  • Critical attitudes affecting the market opportunity
  • Potential opportunities for the client
  • Success factors
  • Conclusions and recommendations
The reports are highly-focused and provide a clear view of what is known about the particular market sector, its key dimensions, the scale of the opportunity, potential 'show-stoppers' (if any), and recommendations about the required next steps - including information about contacts and a suitable approach.
