Supply Chain Europe undertakes projects at strategic, tactical and operational level across all supply chain management disciplines. Projects may be local, national or international in scope in line with each client's individual requirements.

At any one time the Supply Chain Europe professional team will be involved in a number of different projects, each with their unique characteristics. The following examples provide highlights of some recent projects:

Strategic review of European supply chain network structure and operations for a leading international food manufacturer. Recommendations covered supply chain strategy, customer service policy and strategy, improved logistics operations, new service provider relationships and development of information systems

Commentary on customer service expectations in the UK and the result of retailers taking increased control of the extended supply chain. Aspects considered included consideration of retailer procurement strategies, the consequences for information systems, and the role of performance measurement

Benchmarking of times and costs in the international supply chain. This covered road and rail freight; storage; deep sea shipping; port operations; and regulatory compliance. The project considered the impact on modal choice, route selection, rate negotiation procedures and maintenance of customer service levels

Assessment of the possible implications of the Working Time Directive on road haulage costs for a major UK operator. Aspects included affect on manning levels, duty rotas, shift patterns, the potential to negotiate improved customer delivery terms, vehicle availability, and development of appropriate key performance indicators

Review of transport procurement methods and assessment of the potential for cost reduction. This project examined local and regional differences and the impact of process cycle time variation. It also identified opportunities for cost efficiency and best practice, as well as performance monitoring issues

Preparation of pallet and load specifications for international logistics taking into account issues surrounding final market handling and storage requirements. Aspects included exploration of the potential for the use of multi-trip equipment and the impact of pallet configuration on ISO container fill

Advice on possible enhancement and integration of a client's trading and transport management information systems. To meet the requirement of better logistical performance, the project included assessment of the capability of existing software, identification of preferred options, and appropriate recommendations

Consultation on a suitable approach to logistics service supplier selection. This included advice on how to develop appropriate service level agreements (SLAs) with balanced scorecards and key performance indicators together with appropriate contracts.
